Ideas to Make Your Chapter More Relevant to its Members

In March, SMACNA chapter officers from around the country in Dallas to:

  • Discuss the state of the industry
  • Learn about SMACNA resources available to their chapters
  • Share information about successful local programs that improve market conditions and invigorate member involvement

In other words, identify what they can do to make the association more effective and relevant to members.

A full-group discussion facilitated by industry expert Clark Ellis of Continuum Consulting identified critical industry issues.  Participants listed 40 challenges worthy of attention. They then narrowed that down to six items that the group felt were both important and that were enough in contractor control that action by SMACNA and its partners could make a difference.  Each table was assigned one of those six to brainstorm actions that local and or national parties could take that would have a positive influence.  Detailed notes on those discussions and brainstormed outcomes can be found here.

You may wish to share these ideas locally and have a similar discussion in your chapter.  In addition to sharing these with you, SMACNA is also sharing them with its National Board for further consideration.  Contact Vince Sandusky (vsandusky@smacna.org) with questions or comments.
